UNM engineers build the future of 3D printing with bendable concrete

Researchers at the University of New Mexico’s Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering have developed a self-reinforced ultra-ductile cementitious material for 3D printing concrete structures. Led by Assistant Professor Maryam Hojati, the team aimed to overcome traditional concrete’s brittleness and reduce the need for steel reinforcement, enhancing resilience and automation. This patented material, created by Muhammad Saeed Zafar and Amir Bakhshi, improves strain capacity by up to 11.9%. The innovation could revolutionize construction on Earth and in space, offering greater durability, reduced maintenance, and new possibilities for automated building processes.


Queen’s University and Kingston Partner to Advance Drone-Based Inspections

Drones are now being used to monitor and maintain infrastructure in Kingston through a partnership between the City of Kingston and Ingenuity Labs Research Institute at Queen’s University. Led by Dr. Joshua Woods, this initiative integrates AI and robotics to inspect structures like Waaban Crossing and rooftops more efficiently. Drones equipped with high-resolution cameras, LiDAR, and infrared sensors provide detailed data from hard-to-reach areas, improving safety, accuracy, and response times for maintenance. Master’s student Nick Chodura is optimizing flight parameters for roof inspections and snow load assessments, while future projects will explore underwater inspections and UAV swarms for search and rescue.



qbiq Raises $16M to Revolutionize AI-Powered Architectural Planning

qbiq, an AI-driven architectural planning company, has secured $16 million in Series A funding led by Insight Partners to fuel global expansion and enhance automated design capabilities. Its software allows architects and non-architects to instantly generate floor plans, 3D visualizations, and CAD/Revit models, cutting decision-making time and deal cycles. Since 2023, qbiq has processed 400 million+ square feet, with a goal of reaching 1 billion. Industry leaders like Brookfield Properties, JLL, and Skanska use qbiq’s AI to streamline workflows, replacing manual drafting with automated, high-resolution space planning, making real estate design faster and more accessible.



Bridgit Launches AI-Driven Experience Tracking for Smarter Workforce Planning

Bridgit has launched Bridgit Experience Tracking, a tool that enhances construction workforce planning by leveraging employee experience data. It helps leaders assign the right team members based on project type, market sector, and expertise, improving team performance, job satisfaction, and retention. Acting as a dynamic digital resume, it automatically updates employee experience, ensuring efficient workforce planning. Features include profile updates, historical experience integration, and smart team composition suggestions. Now available to all Bridgit customers, this tool streamlines staffing strategies, giving construction firms a competitive edge in talent management and project execution.



AI in Construction: Zachry Enhances Efficiency with ALICE Core

Zachry Construction Corporation has integrated ALICE Core, an AI-powered simulation and optimization tool from ALICE Technologies, to enhance project management efficiency. This AI-driven platform enables faster scenario planning, resource optimization, and risk evaluation, improving decision-making and collaboration. By automating scheduling, Zachry reduces waste and inefficiencies, allowing teams to focus on strategic planning and execution. Vice President Ranjeet Gadhoke emphasized that AI-powered scheduling enhances project outcomes and client satisfaction. With certified training completed and ALICE now deployed across key projects, Zachry continues to lead in construction innovation, setting new industry standards in efficiency and excellence.



Pelles.ai Appoints Construction Tech Leader Jake Olsen to Advisory Board

Pelles.ai has appointed Jake Olsen, P.E., a construction technology veteran, to its Advisory Board. With 20+ years of experience, Olsen is the CEO of Stratus and previously founded DADO, later acquired by Stanley, Black & Decker. His expertise in digital transformation will support Pelles.ai’s mission to streamline data workflows for trade contractors. Co-Founder & CEO Yael Meretyk Hanan highlighted Olsen’s strategic alignment with the company’s vision. Olsen, who has followed Pelles.ai’s development for 18 months, is excited to contribute. Stratus, a leading cloud-based platform for MEP contractors, has secured $32 million in Series B funding, led by Radian Capital, to drive innovation in construction technology. Stratus enhances fabrication workflows by integrating with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, improving efficiency, reducing errors, and providing real-time insights. CEO Jake Olsen emphasized the investment’s role in expanding platform capabilities, while Radian Capital’s Jordan Bettman praised Stratus as a game-changer. The funding will support product innovation, customer success, and operational growth, reinforcing Stratus’ position as a leader in digital transformation for the construction industry.

Benefits include precise damage documentation, remote collaboration, streamlined insurance claims, and improved project tracking. From storm and flood damage to fire restoration and commercial property assessments, 3D tools are transforming recovery efforts. As AI and automation evolve, these technologies will further enhance efficiency and cost accuracy in restoration projects.


3D-Printed Fire-Resistant Homes: A Game-Changer for Wildfire Safety

As wildfires intensify in California, 3D-printed fire-resistant homes are emerging as a groundbreaking solution for safer living. A 1,200-square-foot ADU in Walnut, CA, built by Builtech Construction Group and RIC Technology, showcases this innovation. Made from steel-reinforced concrete and fire-resistant materials, these homes eliminate combustible elements, providing superior fire, termite, and earthquake resistance. Homeowners Philips and Constance praise their home’s unmatched safety, hoping more people adopt this technology. Other projects, like Emergent 3D’s home in Redding, further highlight the practicality and sustainability of 3D-printed fireproof structures in wildfire-prone regions.



Attentive.ai Raises $12M in Series A2 Funding to Advance AI-Powered Construction Tech

Attentive.ai has successfully closed its Series A2 funding round, bringing its total Series A raise to $12 million. Led by Tenacity Ventures with participation from Vertex Ventures, Peak XV Partners, and InfoEdge Ventures, the funding will drive product development and expansion into additional construction trades. Attentive.ai’s Beam AI automates manual takeoff processes, helping 1,000+ companies streamline preconstruction workflows and enhance productivity. CEO Shiva Dhawan emphasized the company’s mission to revolutionize construction technology, while investors recognize the timely need for AI-driven workforce solutions. This funding reinforces Attentive.ai’s leadership in preconstruction automation and AI adoption in construction.
