As Calgarians prepare to vote in the October 2025 municipal election, the Calgary Construction Association (CCA) has unveiled its election platform, Calgary: Built to Respond, Designed to Last. Representing more than 870 member companies and 100,000 local workers, the CCA is urging the next City Council to view construction not as a cost but as the foundation of Calgary’s prosperity and livability.

The platform highlights three urgent priorities that will shape the city’s future:

  1. Expanding the Workforce – With nearly 6,000 skilled trade positions currently vacant and an estimated 40,000 more workers needed across Alberta by 2030, Calgary must attract and retain talent to keep up with demand. Addressing the labour gap is vital for sustaining economic growth and delivering major projects on time.
  2. Addressing the Municipal Infrastructure Deficit – Calgary faces a $7 billion+ shortfall in critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, recreation facilities, and water systems. The CCA stresses the need for consistent, planned investment to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with population growth and future demands.
  3. Placemaking & City Building – With over $15 billion in upcoming projects, Calgary has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape its urban landscape. The CCA is calling on City Council to be strong stewards of projects that strengthen communities, enhance livability, and build a vibrant city for future generations.

“Construction is one of Calgary’s most powerful economic engines, but our city is at a crossroads,” said Bill Black, CCA President & CEO. “We need leadership that builds for the future.”

The CCA is encouraging its members to stay engaged throughout the election by asking candidates where they stand on these critical priorities and using the platform to guide conversations that matter. By aligning political decision-making with construction industry needs, Calgary can secure its position as a thriving, resilient, and forward-looking city.

The CCA’s election platform underscores that strategic investment in workforce development, infrastructure, and placemaking will not only address immediate challenges but also ensure Calgary remains competitive, attractive, and livable for decades to come.
