WorkSafeBC is reminding employers to prepare for significant updates to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) related to occupational first aid, which take effect on November 1, 2024. These updates aim to improve workplace safety and ensure all workers have timely access to proper first aid, especially in remote or inaccessible areas.
Employers must review their current first aid programs to comply with the new standards. The changes will require employers to update first aid training, equipment, and certifications to align with the latest Canadian Standards Association (CSA) guidelines. This includes reclassifying first aid certification levels and introducing new requirements for first aid kits and assessments.
The primary goal of these updates is to provide more comprehensive protection for workers and align B.C.’s standards with national guidelines, ultimately leading to better outcomes for workplace injuries and illnesses.
