Worker dead after seven-storey fall in Calgary

As reported in the Calgary Herald, a man in his 30s is dead after falling at least seven storeys while on a construction site in Calgary, according to EMS.

Calgary police said they were called to the 7700 block of 4A Street S.W. near Macleod Trail around 10:30 a.m. after reports of an industrial accident. EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux later confirmed a man had been pronounced dead at the scene.

Brideaux said first aid was initiated by co-workers prior to the arrival of EMS. “Early efforts” were made by first responders but were unsuccessful.

No other injuries were reported.

An investigation is currently underway by Occupational Health and Safety officials. The cause of death is still being determined.

EMS and local police remain on the scene. Authorities said the incident is being considered a workplace death at this time.

According to Brideaux, construction was taking place on the west side of Macleod Trail. It is unclear at this time what type of work the man was performing, but the fall was likely more than seven storeys.
