Over 80 residents of a low-income building in Kelowna, B.C., have been urgently evacuated due to a significant life and safety risk linked to unstable construction activity at a nearby site. BC Housing has determined that the shoring wall at the construction site is unstable, posing serious structural damage risks to Hadgraft Wilson Place. Pathways Abilities Society, managing the building, is providing temporary hotel accommodations. Despite prior warnings to UBC Trust, the university hasn’t acknowledged the construction as the damage cause. The situation has deeply affected tenants and staff, with no clear timeline for their return as engineers assess the building’s safety.
