Two renowned industry professionals join AECOM in Canada

AECOM announced the appointment of two leaders to its Canadian Buildings + Places business. Michael Magnan will serve as urbanism + planning practice lead for the Canada region. He is based in Calgary, Alberta. Glenn Hubick will serve as managing principal for Buildings + Places in Alberta and British Columbia (B.C.). He is based in Burnaby, B.C.

“We’re thrilled to have such experienced and talented professionals join our Buildings + Places team, particularly at a time when delivering sustainable and equitable infrastructure is more important than ever before,” said Walter Gaudet, senior vice president and Canada region Buildings + Places lead. “Their ability to grow and lead successful teams will strengthen our position as a national firm that’s dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions and creating impactful change in cities across Canada.”

Michael Magnan, M.Arch. B.Sc., is an award-winning landscape architect and urban designer with nearly 20 years of experience in landscape architecture, urban development, community planning, green infrastructure, placemaking, and multi-modal transportation. His career spans progressive roles in both the public and private sectors, most recently serving as public realm lead for the City of Calgary.

“I’m very passionate about leading and mentoring an innovative team that’s committed to turning client visions into reality and I’m enthused to be doing it on a national scale as part of AECOM’s urbanism + planning practice,” said Mr. Magnan.

Mr. Magnan’s diverse portfolio of work in the public sector includes the high-profile Future of Stephen Avenue Public Realm Transformation, which reimagined Calgary’s most iconic retail and hospitality destination, and the ambitious Main Streets Program, which transformed key corridors throughout the city’s established communities. While in the private sector, Mr. Magnan led landscape design for the award-winning Dales Hodges Park, where a once contaminated gravel pit was turned into a natural space that treats stormwater and provides a beautiful neighborhood park.

Glenn Hubick, P.Eng. is a multi-discipline project leader, program manager, and structural engineer with more than 35 years of experience in structural design. His project leadership and design experience span a broad range of projects from healthcare, institutional, commercial, and recreational buildings to bridges and industrial projects. He is skilled in all forms of traditional and alternative project delivery models.

“I’m looking forward to building on the existing strengths of the AECOM Buildings + Places team in B.C. and Alberta, and to leading the development and implementation of strategies that expand the business in western Canada,” said Mr. Hubick.

Mr. Hubick’s recent experience includes serving in a leadership role for the pursuit phase of the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement in Duncan, B.C., which will be the first healthcare project in Canada to be delivered utilizing an Alliance procurement model. In addition, Mr. Hubick was engineering project manager on the B.C. Place Stadium Revitalization in Vancouver and acted as the coordinating professional on the architecture and engineering team for B.C. Ferries Fleet Maintenance facilities upgrade and replacement project in Richmond.
