TSSA Honours its Safety Award Recipients for 2018

TORONTO, Oct. 12, 2018 /CNW/ – The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is proud to award its annual Safety Awards to Utilities Kingston and Joel Prouty of Shell Canada.

TSSA believes that making Ontario a safe place to work, live and play is a shared responsibility. That’s why we created the annual TSSA Safety Awards Program to acknowledge individuals and organizations who work in our regulated sectors and have made significant contributions to public safety in Ontario.

Utilities Kingston Honoured with TSSA’s Impact Safety Award
For over a decade, Utilities Kingston – with its trusted partner, the City of Kingston – has been championing fuels safety, pipeline safety, infrastructure safety and workplace safety with their annual Safety Days events for employees and contractors with the goal to ensure ‘everyone goes safely home – everyday.’ The successful health and safety event has grown to over 575 participants and over 145 firms including gas fitters, excavators, landscapers, electricians, plumbers and cleaners.

Joel Prouty of Shell Canada Honoured with TSSA’s Impact Safety Award
Joel Prouty, 1st Class Power Engineer at Shell Canada, is a driving force behind safety at Shell’s utility plant and refinery in Sarnia, Ontario. Joel joined Shell in 2015 and has since been leveraging his range of technical and safety-driven experiences to diagnose safety concerns at the plant and refinery and to challenge the status quo.

“I am so proud of our 2018 Safety Award Recipients,” said Bonnie Rose, TSSA’s new President and Chief Executive Officer. “What better way to affirm the importance of partnerships than to honour those who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to public safety in Ontario. I am thrilled that we can acknowledge their exceptional commitment and dedication to keeping Ontarians safe. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is one of Ontario’s public safety regulators mandated by the Government of Ontario to enforce provincial safety regulations and enhance public safety. Throughout Ontario, TSSA regulates the safety of amusement devices, boilers and pressure vessels, elevating devices, fuels, operating engineers, ski lifts, and upholstered and stuffed articles. Its range of safety services include public education and consumer information, certification, licensing and registration, engineering design review, inspections, investigations, safety management consultation, and enforcement and prosecution activities. The organization’s vision is to be a valued advocate and recognized authority in public safety.
