Trade Hounds, the largest social marketplace for contractor tradespeople in America, has acquired WRANGLD, a SaaS company known for streamlining commerce between distributors, contractors, and owner/end-users. This acquisition aims to integrate WRANGLD’s advanced tools into the Trade Hounds platform, enhancing job estimation, proposal creation, and procurement efficiency for nearly 400,000 users.
WRANGLD, co-founded by CEO JD Dyke, has provided contractors with valuable tools for over three years, enabling them to save time and focus on critical tasks. Dyke is optimistic about the integration, stating that the partnership aligns with the industry’s future by simplifying contractor workflows.
A recent Trade Hounds survey revealed that 72% of contractors juggle multiple websites and apps for job estimation, scheduling, invoicing, and management. This inefficiency disrupts productivity and highlights the need for a unified platform. Additionally, 70% of Trade Hounds users visit distributor branches weekly, with over half sourcing materials from four or more distributors. However, fewer than 10% rate distributor websites and apps as satisfactory.
Recognizing this gap, Trade Hounds introduced a supply house connection feature that leverages AI to optimize material sourcing from nearby distributors. The acquisition of WRANGLD accelerates this initiative, ensuring contractors can streamline procurement and workflow management, ultimately allowing them to complete jobs faster and improve cash flow.
Trade Hounds CEO David Bauders emphasizes the importance of workflow efficiency for contractors competing for bids. Distributors who fail to engage with digital tools risk losing business to those who streamline the ordering and proposal process. By integrating WRANGLD’s capabilities, Trade Hounds aims to support contractors and distributors alike in improving efficiency and winning more bids.
The acquisition also signals Trade Hounds’ broader mission to evolve from a social media platform into a comprehensive digital ecosystem for the construction industry. The company is now partnering with manufacturers and distributors to develop a national commerce platform for construction materials, supplies, tools, and parts. This database will power contractor tools within the Trade Hounds app, enabling a more seamless workflow experience.
Despite the growing availability of digital procurement solutions, over 70% of Trade Hounds users still rely on phone calls, spreadsheets, emails, or even pen and paper for essential business operations. This presents a significant opportunity for Trade Hounds to automate and simplify workflows, making it easier for contractors to manage jobs and purchase materials efficiently.
Bauders also highlights the pressing issue of labor shortages in the skilled trades, driven by retirements and increasing infrastructure demands. He sees digital workflow tools as a solution to enhance productivity, reduce manual inefficiencies, and help contractors meet rising industry demands. By incorporating AI and automation, Trade Hounds aims to bridge the productivity gap and better support the evolving needs of the construction sector.
