Mayor Olivia Chow marked the groundbreaking of a mixed-use, transit-oriented housing project near Toronto’s Wilson Station. The development at 50 Wilson Heights Blvd., a former parking lot, will feature 1,484 homes, including 520 affordable rental units, as part of the Housing Now initiative. Delivered in partnership with Tridel, Greenwin, and KingSett Capital, the project will include one- to three-bedroom units, childcare, community spaces, a public park, retail spaces, and a geothermal energy supply system, targeting Toronto’s Green Standards.
This project supports Toronto’s HousingTO 2020-2030 Action Plan, which aims to create 65,000 rent-controlled homes by 2030. Housing Now, a key program under this plan, has committed over $1.3 billion in resources to 20 City-owned sites. Of these, construction is already underway on one site, while several others are in advanced planning stages. Officials highlighted the importance of leveraging public land to address housing challenges, emphasizing the integration of affordable homes, transit access, green spaces, and sustainable design.
Leaders from the City of Toronto, CreateTO, and project partners praised the collaborative effort in building sustainable, inclusive neighborhoods. CreateTO, Toronto’s real estate agency, manages City properties and spearheads projects like this to maximize social and economic benefits for residents.
