TCHC Unveils New Family-Focused Affordable Housing in Regent Park

Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) recently unveiled its latest affordable housing building at 175 Oak Street in Regent Park. This 15-storey, family-focused development features 213 units, including 189 Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) units and 24 affordable rentals. Nearly 20% of the units exceed Ontario Building Code accessibility requirements, marking the highest ratio in TCHC’s Regent Park revitalization. Designed to promote healthy living, 175 Oak Street is TCHC’s first smoke-free building and includes 9,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities such as gardens, play areas, lounges, and study spaces. Tenants will move in early 2024.

Aligned with Toronto Green Standards, the building emphasizes sustainability through energy-efficient features like green roofs, LED lighting, and a rainwater reuse system. It also houses a satellite energy plant, part of Regent Park’s District Energy System, which will power the building and surrounding area.

The project is part of Regent Park’s ongoing transformation, one of Canada’s largest urban renewal efforts. Since 2006, TCHC has replaced over 1,400 RGI units, added 400 affordable rentals, and integrated these with market-rate housing to create an inclusive, mixed-use community. As Phases 4-5 approach, TCHC remains committed to its vision for revitalizing Regent Park in collaboration with Tridel and other partners.
