Taylor marks beginning of construction on new public works building

Construction on the District of Taylor’s new public works building is underway with the goal of keeping up with the times, according to Mayor Rob Fraser.

“The existing public works yard and the building is old, old, old,” says Fraser. “The old facility is too small. Our equipment doesn’t fit in it anymore.”

A groundbreaking ceremony for the estimated $3 million facility took place on Tuesday at its new home next to the Lone Wolf Golf Course maintenance building. Taylor council was present to celebrate the start of the project along with the contractors, WL Construction.

There hasn’t been a final decision on the future of the old building, but Fraser says council is moving towards using it for storage.

“Each [district] department gets a bay, and they have the ability to store records and things that aren’t needed immediately.”

Fraser notes that the new building is designed to last for 50 to 60 years and different types of work.
