Sync, Store, Serve: Azure Blob Storage Best Practices

Azure Blob Storage is more than just a convenient place to dump files — it’s the foundation for modern analytics pipelines.

Azure Blob Storage is more than just a convenient place to dump files — it’s the foundation for modern analytics pipelines. When combined with Alice, it becomes a reliable, automated staging area for working with your legacy data in Power BI and Snowflake. In this post, we’ll share best practices for using Blob effectively in a reporting context.

Sync: Getting Data Into Blob

Blob only adds value if your data actually lands there consistently. Manual exports and uploads are brittle — they break, and they don’t scale.

Best Practices:

  • Automate ingestion with tools like Alice to extract data from Access, FoxPro, or CSV exports.
  • Use timestamped folder structures (e.g., sales/2025-07-22/report.csv) to support incremental loads.
  • Normalize encodings and delimiters before writing to Blob so downstream BI tools don’t choke.
