New Research: How Top Contractors & Design Firms Perform Online

AltCMO has released its 2025 Construction SEO Report, a study that analyzes how the biggest names in construction and design show up in search engines. The research examined all 900 websites from the ENR Top 400 Contractors and the Top 500 Design Firms, creating the A/E/C industry’s first SEO benchmarks.

Key takeaways:

  • Domain Authority is standard among leaders. More than three-quarters of top firms earned a Domain Authority score above 30.
  • Desktop speed is strong, but mobile still lags. Sites averaged mid-70s on desktop performance, while mobile fell to the high 50s.
  • Backlinks matter. Firms with the strongest backlink profiles consistently ranked higher in authority.

Why it matters: SEO is no longer a “nice to have.” For contractors and design firms of every size, online visibility is directly tied to winning work, attracting talent, and building credibility in new markets.
