Elie Azar has been appointed the new Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Sustainable Buildings and Communities at Carleton University, a role recognized by the Canadian government to support exceptional emerging researchers. Azar’s research aims to pioneer sustainable, resilient, and human-centered designs for buildings and communities by integrating various disciplines like building energy modeling, occupant behavior, microclimate modeling, and urban energy planning. His work emphasizes the use of novel, data-driven, and physics-based methods to improve building performance, sustainability, and adaptability in the face of climate change challenges. With the goal of enhancing indoor environmental quality for occupants’ comfort, health, and wellbeing, Azar’s CRC tenure focuses on creating and testing innovative building solutions and influencing urban policy. His appointment underscores Carleton University’s commitment to research excellence in engineering and design, particularly in green building design and research methodologies. Azar, who joined the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Design as an associate professor in July 2022, plays a crucial role in preparing the next generation for the challenges of sustainable development in urban environments.
