NECB 2020 User’s Guide: A Key Resource for Energy Efficiency in Construction

The new User’s Guide – National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2020 is now available, offering practical guidance, examples, and calculations to help users apply NECB 2020 provisions. Key updates include the introduction of energy performance tiers for flexible compliance, enhanced examples for calculating building envelope thermal characteristics, guidance on whole-building airtightness testing, and descriptions of six compliant HVAC systems. The guide also details compliance via whole-building energy modeling.

Designed for building design, construction, and regulation professionals, the guide serves as a valuable resource for navigating energy-efficient design and compliance. It’s especially useful for educators and trainers, providing practical examples and insights into NECB provisions.

The guide is available for free electronically via the National Research Council of Canada’s Publications Archive and can also be purchased in printed format from the NRC’s Virtual Store.
