Multi-unit residential development Pinehurst Apartments under construction in New Minas, Nova Scotia

The president of a company developing a multi-unit residential building in New Minas doesn’t think it will take long to fill up once it opens later this year.

Noel Taiani, president of Parsons Green Developments, said he anticipates that construction of Pinehurst Apartments will be completed sometime this coming summer. Framing is expected to be completed within the next two weeks and work on the building interior will begin in February.

He said it’s a great project and the completed units would be “gorgeous.” Pinehurst Apartments is a single, 39-unit apartment building under construction on approximately two acres of land just off Commercial Street, behind the Flower Cart and next to the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club.

The four-storey building – five including the underground parking and storage level – is being built under a development agreement with the County of Kings. The rent for a one-bedroom apartment will be between $1,035 and $1,200 a month while a two-bedroom will cost between $1,260 and $1,305 monthly. Taiani said the rent for comparable units in Halifax would be in excess of $2,000.

“These are definitely luxury apartments,” Taiani said. “It’s really taking the rental availability or projects that are in that part of the province up a couple notches, I’d say.”

Apartments and balconies will be “generously sized”, all two-bedroom apartments will include two full bathrooms, all apartments will include six appliances (range, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer) and underground parking and storage lockers will be available in the basement level.

The apartments will offer optional smart building technology and optional value-adding features designed for aging adults seeking to maintain an independent lifestyle.
