Montreal to host the 12th Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum

MONTREAL, March 12, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ – The 12th Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum, a CG/LA Infrastructure initiative, will be held at Montreal’s the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth from March 26 to 28, 2019. The Forum is an ecosystem where infrastructure decision makers come together to present more than $150 billion in infrastructure projects and their solutions for tackling infrastructure challenges from around the world, including innovative funding models, new-technology and infrastructure’s role in a sustainable future.

During the 2.5-day event, over 50 transformative projects from more than 30 countries and representing 10 sectors will be presented. Confirmed speakers include the Hon. François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Marc-André Blanchard, Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations and Pierre Lavallée, President & CEO, Canada Infrastructure Bank.

Kicked-off by a keynote address by Mayor of Montreal Valérie Plante, the Forum will include world class expert-led presentations, panels, interactive sessions and workshops, such as:

Mayor’s Summit, during which city mayors from Canada, the U.S., Latin America, Asia and Europe will discuss modern technologies, new funding sources and innovative ways to think about engaging citizens.
Global Infrastructure Economic Outlook: Given the backdrop of slowing economic growth in China and a growing fiscal deficit in the U.S., what do the coming years hold in terms of infrastructure investment, and which markets are likely to see the greatest investment?
Risk VS Reward: What innovative approaches to risk mitigation are emerging in order to crowd in more private-sector investment?
The era of smart city pilot projects is rapidly giving way to major undertakings in the fields of smart water metering, LED street lighting, and Internet of Things-enabled decision-making.
How can infrastructure development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, create win–win opportunities for both the short and long term?
In their quest to go global, why and how Canadian companies approached international markets, what challenges did they face, and what lessons did they learn along the way?
How can policy-makers funnel investment into projects that also generate environmental benefits, and how can projects be delivered in a way that is as sustainable as possible?

Global Infrastructure Challenge 2050 Workshop
In January 2019, CG/LA Infrastructure launched an ambitious global initiative to solicit ideas for infrastructure from experts and citizens alike, covering the three key areas of technology, funding and public value creation. Winners of each category will be revealed during a workshop and will present their projects for discussion with participants.

Infrastructure projects to be presented at the Forum include: The Port of Venice Marine Terminal, the Texas Central High-Speed Rail, the Windsor-Detroit Gordie Howe International Bridge and the Lamu to Lokichar Crude Oil Pipeline.

Recognizing and celebrating the projects that are models for projects going forward, and the leaders behind them, awards will be given in five categories: Strategic advancement, Engineering, Finance, Green Infrastructure/Sustainability and Job Creation.
