The Manitoba government has unveiled its $500-million construction and material supply tender schedule for 2024-25, announced by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor at the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) awards breakfast. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to advancing Manitoba’s infrastructure while allowing construction partners to plan ahead, ensuring cost efficiency and timely, high-quality projects.
Key projects include bituminous rehabilitation on PR 224 near Fisher Bay, runway upgrades at Oxford House Airport, and significant bridge replacements on the Trans-Canada Highway and PTH 5 over the Assiniboine River. Other notable projects include flood pump station replacements and extensive highway reconstructions, further enhancing the province’s infrastructure network.
Minister Naylor highlighted the dual benefits of early tender release: fostering collaboration between the government and industry while achieving better pricing on materials. Chris Lorenc, president and CEO of the MHCA, emphasized the schedule’s positive impact on workforce planning and competitive bidding.
The MHCA breakfast also celebrated excellence in construction, with awards presented to standout projects. Winners included GIP Paving Inc. for paving, Russell Redi-Mix Concrete for urban works, and PCL Construction Inc. for water infrastructure projects. These awards underscore Manitoba’s commitment to building quality infrastructure through industry partnerships.
