Did you know that on December 10, 2018 the British Columbia Building Code will change? The changes will impact Part 9 of the code and will include new provisions for stairs, guards, sound transmission and seismic requirements, accessibility, energy and water efficiency standards, and other design elements.
To ensure that you, your colleagues and other industry professionals understand how these changes will impact your work, BC Housing is hosting a series of educational seminars.
These Building Smart seminars will focus on the requirements that apply to single family and low-rise residential buildings.
Learn from the experts
You’ll hear from two expert speakers, architect Richard Kadulski and building science technologist James Higgins.
Richard Kadulski specializes in healthy, energy-efficient, solar, and climate-sensitive residential design. He is a current member of the National Research Council of Canada Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings (Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada). Richard provides training to the building industry and members of the general public, and is also the editor of SOLPLAN REVIEW, Canada’s journal of energy conservation, building science and building practice.
James Higgins works across several groups at RDH Building Science Inc., from research and investigation, to building enclosure design and construction field review in new buildings. His work includes forensic investigations, building monitoring, thermal modeling, field review and testing services, and building enclosure design.
The Building Smart seminars were developed in collaboration with the BC Office of Housing and Construction Standards, BC Building and Safety Standards Branch, Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC, Building Officials’ Association of BC, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC, Architectural Institute of British Columbia, and BC new home warranty providers.
