Lawsuit settlement finally arrives for deficiencies in construction of Stride Place

The City of Portage la Prairie along with the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie and the Portage Regional Recreation Authority Inc. announced Thursday that a settlement was reached in a lawsuit relating to building deficiencies in the construction of Stride Place.

Mayor Irvine Ferris says it’s been a long time coming.

“Well, after five years, we have a settlement agreement of $1.5 million and this will be used to recover costs related to the construction flaws at Stride Place,” explains Ferris. “So, this has certainly taken a long time. But we’re very happy to see it concluded.”

He says the total cost they paid for construction in order to remedy the entire set of deficiencies was $2,275,000.

“So, obviously, we didn’t recover everything that we spent on the remedial work,” continues Ferris. “First of all, the really good news was that there were no injuries, that was very important. And so, to get it all remedied and have it functioning in top shape, is good to see.”
