IAPMO Seeks UPC, UMC Task Group Members

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is accepting applications and seeking technical experts to participate on task groups relating to condensate and indoor horticulture facilities.

The scope of the Condensate Task Group is to evaluate provisions related to condensate discharge, drainage interconnections through a common drain, indirect connections, condensate traps, and protection of trap seals. Additionally, the task group will review the allowance for interconnecting condensate discharge between dwelling units and/or tenant spaces, to address any potential issues with biological aerosols passing through the condensate drainage systems. The recommendations provided by the task group will be forwarded to the UPC and UMC Technical Committees as a public comment for consideration in the development of the 2024 editions of the UPC and UMC.

The scope of the UPC Indoor Horticulture Facilities Task Group is to review and develop recommendations on UPC Item No. 044 to determine applicability and accuracy of requirements for such facilities. The recommendations provided by the task group will be forwarded to the UPC Technical Committee as a public comment for consideration in the development of the 2024 edition of the UPC.

The scope of the UMC Indoor Horticulture Facilities Task Group is to review and develop recommendations on UMC Item No. 283 to determine applicability and accuracy of requirements for such facilities. These recommendations provided by the task group will be forwarded to the UMC Technical Committee as a public comment for consideration in the development of the 2024 edition of the UMC.

Task group members will participate via conference call or web meeting, provide their perspective on the code, and assist in drafting recommendations for action by the technical committees’ consideration. Applicants are not required to be members of either technical committee.

Those interested in participating on either of these task groups can apply at the following URL: http://forms.iapmo.org/iapmo/committee/app_task_group.aspx

The deadline to apply is July 30.

Developed and subsequently republished at the conclusion of each three-year code cycle, the Uniform Codes are designed to provide consumers with safe plumbing, heating, and mechanical systems while, at the same time, allowing latitude for innovation and new technologies.
