HRAI is pleased to report that the Thermostat Recovery Program Advisory Committee (TRPAC) has officially been re-launched, hosting their kick-off meeting on June 24. The timing is right given a recent focus on EPR approaches to waste management across Canada, with the release of Ontario’s new producer responsibility regulation for hazardous and special products, including thermostats, and ongoing discussions in other provinces including British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba, as they review their approach to managing waste.
The TRPAC will report to HRAI’s Manufacturers Board of Directors, collaborating to continue operating the Thermostat Recovery Program (TRP) to provide Canadians with an environmentally responsible self-sustained program for the recovery and recycling of end-of-life thermostats (both electronic and mercury-containing).
During their initial meeting, members appointed a Committee Chair, Arnold ‘Arnie’ Meyer, Product Marketing Manager and long-time employee at Resideo (formerly Honeywell), located in Minnesota. The group discussed topics such as the program’s marketing and engagement plans, as well as current activity in the EPR space for thermostat producers across Canadian provinces.
The TRPAC is excited to be under Arnie’s leadership, who serves as the Chair for the USA’s Thermostat Recycling Corporation (TRC) Board of Directors, supporting similar initiatives for mercury thermostats in America.
