The Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) are pleased to announce that they have established a training agreement that will make HRAI the exclusive delivery partner in Canada for all of IGSHPA’s current (and some yet-to-come) residential geothermal courses. 

“This agreement builds on our past success with HRAI in offering quality training to technicians and system designers in Canada,” said Jeff Hammond, Executive Director of IGSHPA. “HRAI is a known and trusted training agency in Canada and we are proud to partner with them in the delivery of our training programs for the ground source heat pump sector.”

“In light of the growing number of government programs and policies aiming to de-carbonize heating in Canada, the HVACR industry is looking to broaden its offerings to include low-carbon technologies such as geo-exchange and, as that segment of the market grows, there will be increasing demand for quality training,” said Sandy MacLeod, HRAI President and CEO.  “This arrangement with IGSHPA puts us in a position to help meet that demand in a responsible way.”

Under the new arrangement, HRAI will offer and manage the day-to-day administration of courses in Canada, including course scheduling, promotion, participant registration, contracting and remunerating IGSHPA-certified instructors and training sites, managing registrations and all other work associated with administering the affected courses in Canada as necessary.  In return, IGSHPA will maintain an up-to-date roster of IGSHPA-certified instructors and will provide licensed course materials.  IGSHPA will also provide Train-the-Trainer” sessions for prospective instructors, curriculum updates and maintenance support as necessary to ensure materials and curriculum are up to date with appropriate Federal and Provincial standards and good industry practice in Canada.

The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) is a non-profit, member-driven organization established in 1987 to advance ground source heat pump (GSHP) technology on local, state/provincial, national, and international levels.
