Despite the Canadian federal government’s efforts to increase incentives for adopting environmentally friendly heat pumps, there hasn’t been a noticeable surge in public interest. The government had increased the maximum grant from $10,000 to $15,000 in the fall to encourage Canadians to replace oil furnaces with electric heat pumps. However, this initiative did not result in a significant uptick in applications or interest. Over 12,000 Canadians have applied for these federal grants, but this number did not see a substantial increase following the enhanced financial incentives. This suggests that while there is some interest in transitioning to more sustainable heating options, the increased financial support has not dramatically shifted consumer behavior or preferences.
