In a significant move to protect homebuyers, the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) has issued a Freeze Order against Albion Building Consultant Inc., a company previously stripped of its license due to illegal home building and selling activities. This decision comes after investigations highlighted Albion’s unauthorized construction activities and its practice of accepting major payments for these illicitly sold homes. To ensure the security of the purchasers’ investments, the Freeze Order mandates that Albion must keep the received funds in trust, preventing any withdrawal or misuse. Wendy Moir, HCRA’s CEO and Registrar, emphasized the importance of upholding legal standards in the home construction industry and reassured that the authority is dedicated to protecting consumers against unethical practices. The HCRA advises anyone who has engaged in transactions with Albion in the past three years to come forward and also encourages prospective homebuyers to utilize the Ontario Builder Directory as a resource for verifying the legitimacy of builders.
