Hazelview Investments has announced that Founder and Executive Chair Ugo Bizzarri has received the prestigious Rental Housing Canada Lifetime Achievement Award at the Rental Housing Canada National Conference in Ottawa. The award recognizes individuals whose leadership, advocacy, and long-term contributions have significantly shaped Canada’s rental housing sector.
Since co-founding Hazelview Investments in 1999, Bizzarri has helped transform the company from a Canadian real estate investor and operator into a global investment management firm managing $11.2 billion in assets. Today, Hazelview employs more than 600 professionals across 19 offices in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Hong Kong.
Under his leadership, Hazelview has owned and managed approximately 34,000 rental homes across six provinces and 21 Canadian cities. The company has also played an active role in addressing Canada’s housing needs by delivering 1,442 purpose-built rental homes, while maintaining a development pipeline of more than 20,000 additional units.
For more than 25 years, Bizzarri has been a respected voice in Canada’s rental housing industry, contributing to public policy discussions and industry governance initiatives. His leadership has helped shape conversations around housing supply, rental housing investment, and community development.
Beyond his work at Hazelview, Bizzarri served as Chairman of the Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO), supporting advocacy efforts that benefit housing providers and residents across the province.
Bizzarri’s influence extends beyond real estate investment. He founded the Hazelview Cares Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on strengthening communities through housing support, education, employment opportunities, health and wellness programs, and local community initiatives.
His approach reflects a belief that successful real estate development is about more than buildings—it’s about creating places where people can thrive.
Rental Housing Canada President and CEO Tony Irwin described Bizzarri as one of the most influential figures in Canadian rental housing over the past two decades, recognizing his commitment to providing quality homes while building a world-class organization.
Accepting the award, Bizzarri emphasized that the achievement reflects the collective efforts of Hazelview’s employees and their commitment to creating value for residents, investors, and communities.
The Rental Housing Canada Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the industry’s highest honours, celebrating leaders whose work has had a lasting impact on Canada’s housing landscape.
