Grandio develops a prefabricated construction system that’s built 99% offsite

On its mission to bring the construction industry up to date, Grandio presents ‘Hüga technology’, a building system that allows for 99% offsite construction. In October 2020, the Argentina-based studio first unveiled its prefabricated concrete dwelling called Hüga. Now, the team has developed a system using the same technology, which can be deployed for commercial, hospitality, and residential functions.

Hüga technology was developed in response to unsatisfied demand in housing and public buildings, and an industry that has remained more or less unchanged for centuries. “The use of brick in our constructions for over 5000 years is a clear example of how the construction industry is reluctant to change. to modernize or upgrade. not till today has construction had a satisfactory solution, one that renders slow and expensive traditional systems that require skilled labor, which is increasingly scarce, obsolete,” says Grandio.

In the effort to provide a more efficient way to build, Grandio worked alongside a multidisciplinary team of 23 professionals, civil, mechanical, and industrial engineers, architects, industrial designers, and specialist technicians using modern construction methods (MMC) and world-class manufacturing (WCM). The resulting hüga units are built in reinforced concrete and designed for minimal maintenance and low energy costs. The compact volumes are developed to withstand all climates and adverse conditions, including earthquakes, wildfires, and hurricanes. They are also mobile and modular, meaning inhabitants can extend their homes in a single day.
