George Brown College has announced the appointment of Geoff Smith, former President and CEO of EllisDon, as its new Chancellor. A recognized leader in Canada’s construction sector, Smith will officially assume the role during the college’s Convocation Week from June 9 to 13, 2025, at Meridian Hall. Renowned for guiding EllisDon through transformative changes—such as technology integration, sustainable building practices, and employee ownership – Smith brings decades of experience and a forward-thinking mindset to his new academic role.
Smith’s relationship with George Brown College is long-standing. He has supported student placements, hired graduates, contributed to philanthropic initiatives, and collaborated with the college’s leadership on major projects, including the creation of the first Waterfront Campus facility. In his new role, he aims to inspire students by promoting lifelong learning, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry and workforce.
President Dr. Gervan Fearon highlighted Smith’s alignment with George Brown’s values of innovation, inclusion, and excellence, expressing confidence that Smith’s leadership will enhance student readiness for the future economy. Smith succeeds former Chancellors Noella Milne (2019–2025) and Sally Horsfall Eaton (2012–2018), continuing a legacy of visionary leadership at the institution.
