Feeling the love: Construction leaders contribute to the community through charity casino

February 14, 2019 (Victoria, BC) – On Friday, February 22nd, the Vancouver Island Construction Association’s U40 network is hosting their annual charity casino event to raise funds for the Help Fill A Dream Foundation.

Now in its sixth year, and their third year partnering with Help Fill A Dream, the network hopes to exceed previous year’s fundraising goals and surpass the $15,000 raised in 2018. Over the years, the casino events have raised over $50,000 for local charities.

“Of all the events we put on, this is the one I am most proud of,” said U40 Victoria Chair Barclay Ellis. “Many of us in the construction community have young families and our hearts go out to parents struggling with children who have life-threatening illnesses. In the past year alone, Help Fill A Dream has raised over $750,000 and supported over 300 families. We’re proud to contribute what we can.”

This year’s charity casino will transport guests to the wild, wild west complete with saloon games and a western-themed, wearable giveaway. Blackjack, roulette, and poker tables will span wall to wall, wheels of fortunes will be spinning, and an air of good times for a good cause will fill the room.

Upon entering the event, each guest will be handed ‘funny money’ to play with while using their own to bid on the silent auction prizes and the much-anticipated live auction that caps off the night. Proceeds from ticket sales, games, sponsorship, and auctions go to support the foundation.

“We’re proud of our U40 and Women in Construction networks for taking on initiatives to support local families through community partners like Help Fill A Dream,” said VICA CEO Rory Kulmala. “The charity casino brings our members together in an environment much unlike their day to day. It’s great to see the entire construction community—trade and general contractors, operations managers and labourers—all in one room contributing to the same great cause.”
