Feds launch RFP for next step in revitalizing Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct

The rejuvenation of Block 2, situated right across from Parliament Hill in downtown Ottawa, plays a pivotal role in the ambitious Long Term Vision and Plan for the Parliamentary Precinct. This extensive initiative aims to revitalize and modernize Canada’s Parliament over several years.

Recently, Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, made an exciting announcement about the launch of the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. This RFP invites all construction management companies to participate and support the next phase of the Block 2 redevelopment project. The selected construction manager will be responsible for analyzing project implementation options, overseeing the deconstruction, construction, and preservation of heritage aspects.

The contract for construction management is anticipated to be awarded early in 2024, with preliminary construction activities scheduled to commence in the same year.

The Block 2 redevelopment endeavor is set to transform a blend of aging structures and two vacant land parcels into a modern and inclusive complex that caters to Parliament and the public. This redesigned block will provide office space for the Senate and the House of Commons, facilitating the rehabilitation of the East Block and the Confederation Building. In the long run, it will serve as a permanent space for consolidating parliamentary accommodations and even include renovated retail spaces along Sparks Street.

Crucially, this project ensures the uninterrupted functioning of Parliament while preserving the historical heritage of these buildings. Ultimately, the redevelopment of Block 2 will offer contemporary, sustainable, and accessible accommodations for Canada’s Parliament, aligning perfectly with the broader Long Term Vision and Plan for the Parliamentary Precinct.”
