Enbridge Gas presents cheque to Skills Ontario, continues support for the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives program

Ontario (November 15, 2019) – Earlier this week, Ian Howcroft, Chief Executive Officer of Skills Ontario met with Ken McCorkle, Manager of Indigenous Affairs at Enbridge Gas and Malini Giridhar, VP of Business Development and Regulatory at Enbridge Gas, and was presented with a $20,000 cheque to go towards Skills Ontario programming to provide the province’s youth with experiential learning opportunities.

Enbridge Gas is a Gold Partner with Skills Ontario and their sponsorship includes generous support of the Skills Ontario First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives (FNMI) program. The FNMI program aims to engage Indigenous youth by offering experiential learning opportunities and events to connect them to mentors in their community who have chosen a career in the skilled trades and technologies.

“Skills Ontario would not be able to offer the learning opportunities we do without our partners,” says Howcroft. “The skilled trades and technologies offer great career paths, and we aim to inspire youth to pursue these careers and ultimately become skilled professionals and fill the employment gap for the advancement of our economy. On behalf of Skills Ontario, thank you to Enbridge Gas for their ongoing support and investment in tomorrow’s leaders.”

“Organizations like Skills Ontario are helping a wide diversity of students, including women and Indigenous youth, realize their potential and passion in skilled trades and technology,” says Giridhar. “The values of Skills Ontario are strongly aligned with Enbridge’s values of safety integrity and respect.”

As a not-for-profit organization that relies on support from sponsors and partners, Skills Ontario is thrilled to provide presentations, host events, and connect education, experience, and employment for youth across the province throughout the year.
