EllisDon Corporation has released the fourth edition of its annual Impact Report, highlighting measurable progress across sustainability, workforce development, safety, innovation, community investment, and governance.
The 2025 Impact Report outlines how the Canadian construction and infrastructure company is embedding long-term environmental and social responsibility into its operations, project delivery, and partnerships.
“Our projects shape cities and communities for decades,” said Kieran Hawe, President and CEO of EllisDon. “That long-term impact requires us to think beyond individual builds and focus on how we operate as a company, from reducing environmental impacts and protecting our people to strengthening communities and industry partnerships.”
EllisDon’s climate strategy focuses on three core priorities: reducing operational emissions across jobsites, fleet, and offices; lowering embodied carbon in construction materials; and enabling low-carbon operations in the buildings and infrastructure it delivers.
Recent initiatives demonstrate measurable results. Smart winter heating controls used on three Ontario civil projects during the 2024–25 season saved more than 235,000 litres of diesel, prevented 631 tonnes of CO₂e emissions, and reduced operating costs by more than $338,000. Fleet rightsizing and telematics-driven Smart Idling Guidelines are also helping reduce fuel consumption while maintaining safety and productivity.
EllisDon is also supporting clients pursuing sustainable building standards. Examples include the North Bay Community and Recreation Centre, Canada’s first Zero Carbon Building–Design certified arena complex, and TELUS Ocean in Victoria, BC, which is targeting LEED Platinum certification while achieving more than 80% construction waste diversion.
In materials innovation, EllisDon is piloting low-carbon concrete technologies, including graphene-enhanced admixtures that reduce cement use without compromising performance. At the Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre project, structural redesign and optimized concrete mixes reduced embodied carbon by an estimated 5,300 tonnes.
EllisDon continues to prioritize employee well-being, professional development, and workplace inclusion. In 2025, the company expanded mental health resources and delivered more than 1,100 employee education engagements while continuing leadership and skills-development programs across the organization.
Safety remains central to operations. The company strengthened Serious Injury and Fatality prevention programs, expanded Energy-Based Hazard Recognition training, and lowered fall-protection thresholds to 1.8 metres (six feet) in collaboration with the Canadian Construction Safety Council.
Community engagement is also a key component of the company’s impact strategy. In 2025, EllisDon contributed $4 million in donations to charitable and community organizations across Canada, supporting initiatives focused on youth mental health, cancer research, early literacy, and local social infrastructure.
Through its ConTech Accelerator, EllisDon continues to pilot emerging construction technologies designed to improve sustainability, safety, and productivity across the industry.
The company is also addressing housing challenges through its Community Builders platform, advancing affordable and inclusive housing using Housing as Infrastructure™ and Base Design™ models that aim to accelerate project delivery and maximize public funding.
EllisDon’s employee-ownership structure supports a culture of accountability and engagement, while robust governance policies and supply-chain oversight reinforce ethical business practices and operational transparency.
