Easily Remove Asphalt Pavements with German Engineering

The Lutec Comicat 140 is an efficient and productive machine for grinding asphalt, concrete and terrazzo. The German-engineered machine provides the best possible solution to get the surface prepared correctly for final overlayment and is used regularly to prepare floors in retail centers, industrial buildings, hospitals, and parking garages, as well as prepare bridge, concrete road, and asphalt road surfaces for resurfacing.

On garage asphalt surfaces, it mills the asphalt down to the water barrier in one pass. The Comicat CM 140 uses a 31-piece milling tool to mill up to 80-mm (3 inches) deep and 355-mm (14 inches) wide in a single pass. This allows for a production rate of up to 200 m² (1200 ft.²) per hour, which is significantly more efficient than using jackhammers.

The removal of asphalt on bridges, parking garages and other infrastructure can be tricky due to engineering, space, health and safety restrictions. Traditional asphalt milling equipment may not be suitable because they bare too heavy or too big. However, the low-impact, high-production Comicat 140 is small and manouverable; it also comes equipped with a Hepa filter and vacuum attachment for indoor use.

Since this machine is designed for removing concrete, it is more than capable of removing asphalt.

This method of removing asphalt, concrete and even terrazzo is popular in Europe and is growing in North America because of increasing health awareness.

Manufactured in Germany and available through Lutec North America the Lutec Comicat CM 140 easily removes asphalt concrete and terrazzo floors

“The milled surface created by the Comicat is a much better surface for resurfacing than a surface removed with jackhammers; with it, you can build a better, longer-lasting floor,” says Christoph Ott, Vice President, Lutec North America. “Also, the milled surface is safer to for people to drive on with their automobiles. This could be particularly important when working on a project where it would be inconvenient and costly to prohibit automobile traffic until the surface can be paved.”

The compact size of the Comicat (2.85 metres (9.35 feet) long by 1.2 metres (3.9 feet) wide) combined with decreased dust and noise make it a great solution for indoor and outdoor applications, as well as parking garages and parking decks because of the lower weight then conventical asphalt removal equipment.

“The machine comes equipped with a Hepa filter that collects most of the dust,” says Ott. “The Comicat combined with a skid steer loader or track loader can complete the same square footage as 10 people with jackhammers and in less time. Plus, there is less noise, less dust, and less muscle fatigue from operating a jackhammer all day.”

Decreasing the amount of people on site—especially inside—is an excellent way of stopping the spread of Covid and keeping workers safe. When using the Comicat CM 140, you only need two people—one to operate the machine and one person to follow the machine from inside a loader and pick up the debris.
