DataBid Blog – Plans for Construction of Children’s Hospital in Ottawa

A new six storey children’s treatment centre will be constructed in Ottawa. The government of Ontario has pledged $105 million over the next six years to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and is commited to creating better outcomes and opportunities for children and youth with special needs per Ontario Newsroom.

The new building will house a hub of services called 1door4care which will bring special needs services together in one place to provide faster and better care.

“Often families are forced to navigate a system they find complicated and confusing with little to no help. The services CHEO will provide through 1door4care will be easy to access and will provide high quality support. Our government is committed to making life easier for families and making sure every child is supported by a caring society.”

Minister of Children, Community & Social Services | Lisa MacLeod

The new facility will provide the following services all under one roof:

 – Children’s mental health

 – Early childhood programming

 – Autism services

 – Rehabilitation support

 – Occupational therapy

 – Physical therapy

 – Speech language pathology

 – Seating and mobility

 – Blind-low vision program

 – Respite services

 – Additional support from community organizations on site

This project will provide the opportunity to reduce wait times for services, address capacity issues and optimize program efficiencies and quality while providing support for families and children.

Bidding on Public Projects Requires the Right Tools

CHEO’s children’s treatment centre is one of 20 treatment centres in Ontario. They all receive funding from the Government of Ontario. The 1door4care project provides integrated care for these children in one location. All of the children’s treatment centres have provided care for more than 74,000 children across Ontario with moderate or severe disabilities, autism and special needs every year.
