Cooper Equipment Rentals Expands Across Canada with Key Acquisitions in Ontario and Alberta

Cooper Equipment Rentals Limited (“Cooper”) continues its strategic expansion to reinforce its position as Canada’s leading independent equipment rental company. With the acquisitions of Rent All Centre (RAC) and Skyhigh Platforms in Ontario, and Big Stick Rentals in Alberta, Cooper extends its presence across Eastern and Western Canada. These acquisitions strengthen Cooper’s regional partnerships, service capabilities, and customer-focused approach.

Expanding in Eastern Ontario

Rent All Centre (RAC) and Skyhigh Platforms, established in 1973, have provided top-tier rental equipment to contractors and businesses across Cobourg, Port Hope, Peterborough, Belleville, Trenton, and Whitby. Now part of Cooper, these locations enhance the company’s reach in Peterborough and the Highway 401 corridor, complementing existing operations in Toronto, Oshawa, Kingston, and Ottawa.

Brian Wheatley, President of RAC, expressed confidence in the transition, stating, “The Cooper family will continually improve on our already excellent service and reputation.” This integration ensures seamless equipment sharing, improved resource availability, and increased efficiency for customers.

Strengthening Western Canada with Big Stick Rentals

Big Stick Rentals, based in Grande Prairie, Alberta, has built a strong reputation for reliability and service excellence since its founding in 2013. Led by Kevin Bjornson, the company has played a crucial role in Northern Alberta’s rental market.

Bjornson emphasized the cultural alignment between Big Stick Rentals and Cooper, stating, “I never expected to find a large partner who shared the same core values as our small company.” This acquisition solidifies Cooper’s presence in Western Canada, expanding its geographic reach and ensuring better equipment availability and service flexibility across Alberta.

A National Vision for Cooper Equipment Rentals

For CEO Doug Dougherty, these acquisitions are more than just expansion; they strengthen Cooper’s position as Canada’s only truly national, independent rental company:

At Cooper, we don’t just grow for the sake of growth – we expand with purpose,” said Dougherty. “Bringing these respected businesses into the Cooper family means strengthening our service, growing our footprint, and staying true to what matters most: delivering the best rental experience in the industry.”

COO Brian Spilak highlighted the operational advantages:

“For our customers, these acquisitions mean more access to the equipment they need, where and when they need it. By expanding our network, we’re not just adding locations – we’re investing in better service, faster response times, and deeper local expertise. Whether it’s a small contractor or a major project, we’re ensuring they have the right equipment and support to keep their jobs moving forward.”
