Contractor charged in relation to 2022 crane collapse

In February 2022, a temporary bridge collapse involving a crane occurred during the Coles Island bridge replacement project in New Brunswick. Contractor Caldwell & Ross Ltd. faces charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure and protect the health and safety of employees. The crane fell into the Canaan River, causing a power outage but no injuries to the operator. The project, valued at $45 million, aims for completion by 2024, with traffic adjustments ongoing until June.
