Contractor banned from City of Hamilton projects for one year

The contractor for the ongoing J.L. Grightmire Arena addition — and previously delayed Dundas library branch renovation — has been banned from working on new projects for the City of Hamilton for a year.

City councillors passed three recommendations from the audit, finance and administration committee originally approved by committee in December then deferred by city council to give a Century Group Inc. representative a chance to address committee members.

Century Group vice-president Eric Zvaniga met with the committee on Jan. 18 to defend his company’s position, including the submission of a seven-page letter that outlined dozens of issues with the project’s design, challenges with the site and the existing building.

But Ancaster Coun. Lloyd Ferguson, and the rest of the committee, were not swayed by Century Group’s arguments.
