Protect Projects from Rising Tariff Costs

Tariffs on construction materials like steel, aluminum, and lumber are driving up project costs in 2025, squeezing profit margins across the industry. Contractors must navigate rising material prices, supply chain disruptions, and increased risk. Proactive planning, real-time cost tracking, and integrated ERP solutions can help construction firms better manage financial exposure and maintain profitability in a volatile market.

BigRentz and Linarc Partner to Streamline Construction Equipment Procurement

BigRentz, a leading construction procurement software platform, has announced a strategic partnership with Linarc, a collaborative construction management platform designed to streamline scheduling, site coordination, and resource management. The integration embeds BigRentz’s national rental network directly into Linarc’s project workflows, giving contractors a seamless way to connect jobsite planning with real-time equipment procurement to reduce costly delays and improve accountability. By linking planning, scheduling, and procurement in one system, the partnership addresses the common industry problem of disconnected tools that slow projects and complicate coordination. Field teams using Linarc can now access over 6,000 suppliers through an embedded BigRentz-powered catalog, completing rentals with a single click and managing documentation, cost tracking, and delivery updates all in one place. The first phase of the integration is live, with a second phase planned to add API-based automation, mobile field access, and rental approvals tied to schedules for even smoother workflows.

ProjectTeam.com Launches Advanced CPM Scheduling Module

ProjectTeam, Inc. has launched its most advanced feature yet—the Schedules module for ProjectTeam.com, its FedRAMP-authorized construction management platform. Designed for complex construction projects, the new module delivers robust Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling with interactive Gantt charts, baseline tracking, and critical path visualization, all within a secure, collaborative cloud environment. The Schedules module integrates seamlessly with Oracle Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel, supporting data exchange while unifying communication, approvals, and reporting in one platform. With custom fields, workflow automation, discussion threads, and form linking to RFIs and change orders, ProjectTeam.com helps teams reduce delays, improve accountability, and streamline project delivery.

Civ Robotics Raises $7.5M to Expand Construction Automation

Civ Robotics, a leader in construction automation, has announced a $7.5 million Series A funding round led by AlleyCorp with participation from Bobcat Company, ff Venture Capital, and prior investors, bringing total funding to $12.5 million. The new investment will drive development of Civ Robotics’ surveying robots and support global expansion, with a strong focus on renewable energy and solar projects. Already profitable, Civ Robotics has deployed over 100 CivDot robots worldwide, helping major firms like Bechtel survey sites up to eight times faster with exceptional accuracy. The robots simplify complex surveying, reduce errors, and work across varied terrain in all weather conditions, marking up to 3,000 points daily. With over 20 gigawatts of solar farms supported and 10 million coordinates marked globally, Civ Robotics is proving that automation can boost efficiency, cut costs, and modernize an industry historically slow to adopt new technology.

New hh2 and Penta Integration Enhances Sage Intacct Construction Payroll

hh2 Construction Connected, a cloud-based construction software company backed by Capstreet, has announced a strategic partnership with Penta Software to integrate hh2’s Time and Attendance solution with the STRUXI Sage Intacct Construction Payroll system. This integration offers contractors seamless, mobile-friendly time tracking—even offline—with real-time syncing to Sage Intacct Payroll, eliminating manual data entry and reducing errors. Job and cost codes automatically sync to ensure accurate job costing, union tracking, and certified class compliance. hh2’s intuitive workflows improve field-to-office connections while helping maintain payroll accuracy and compliance. Chad Mathias, hh2’s Chief Revenue Officer, emphasized the value of automating processes to save contractors time, while Penta President Nick Lacenski highlighted the partnership’s goal of delivering a seamless user experience from field time collection to labor cost management, reducing errors and enhancing project insights.

Viral Video Sparks Alarm Over AI-Fueled Construction Scam

A viral social media video has sparked outrage by alleging that a contractor used AI tools—including ChatGPT—to forge images of a road that was never built, tricking a government engineer into approving payment. The clip shows the contractor photographing an unpaved stretch and digitally altering it to appear fully paved, complete with lane markings and gutters, before sending it via WhatsApp for approval without inspection. While the video’s authenticity remains debated, it has ignited serious discussions about ethics, professionalism, and the risk of technology-enabled fraud in public projects. Experts warn that as AI becomes more accessible, opportunities for digital deception are growing, underscoring the urgent need for stronger oversight and accountability in public contracting.

AI-Powered Workforce Tools Target Construction’s Talent Shortage

Entrepreneur Shreesha Ramdas, known for successful tech exits, is tackling construction’s chronic labor crisis with his new company, Lumber. Backed by over $22.5 million in venture capital, Lumber delivers AI-powered workforce management tools to modernize an industry facing severe labor shortages, an aging workforce, restrictive immigration policies, and stagnant productivity. The U.S. construction sector, critical for infrastructure and housing, struggles to attract younger workers even as demand rises. Lumber streamlines hiring, credentialing, payroll, and training through digital solutions, including facial recognition, geo-fencing, and multilingual learning systems. By digitizing credential management and developing AI companions to preserve expert knowledge, Lumber aims to reduce onboarding time and improve retention. With rising interest among Gen Z in skilled trades due to job security and higher wages, Ramdas believes technology can transform construction into a respected, modern career path while meeting urgent national building needs.

AI Robot to Accelerate Solar Panel Installation in Australia

Boston-based Luminous Robotics Inc. will deploy its AI-powered LUMI robot in Australia with $4.9 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s $100 million Solar Scaleup Challenge. Designed to automate one of solar construction’s most labour-intensive tasks, LUMI picks up and places heavy solar panels onto racks up to 3.5 times faster than manual methods, reducing labour, boosting safety, and cutting costs. The project marks the first international fleet deployment of five LUMI robots, with installations planned at the 440 MW Neoen Culcairn Solar Farm in New South Wales and the 250 MW Engie Goorambat East Solar Farm in Victoria. By lowering installation costs by up to 6.2%, LUMI supports Australia’s goal of achieving ultra-low-cost solar at 30 cents per watt and under $20/MWh. ARENA CEO Darren Miller says these targets are essential to Australia’s renewable energy ambitions, while Luminous CEO Jay M. Wong highlights that deploying LUMI in Australia will set a new global standard for utility-scale solar construction and accelerate clean energy deployment worldwide.

Chongqing’s High-Speed Rail Station Showcases Future of Robotic Construction

The new Chongqing East Railway Station, the largest high-speed rail hub in western China, opened alongside the Chongqing–Qianjiang section of the Chongqing-Xiamen high-speed railway after 38 months of construction. Covering 1.22 million square meters with 15 platforms and 29 tracks, the project overcame Chongqing’s extreme summer heat and rugged terrain through extensive robotics integration. Laser-guided bots handled precision ground leveling, patrol robots improved safety monitoring by 90%, glass-installation robots positioned massive panels with millimeter accuracy, and welding robots accelerated complex pipe installations. These innovations tripled work efficiency, nearly halved labor costs, and reduced safety incidents dramatically. Chongqing is also investing heavily in robotics, with over 300 enterprises, 31 R&D platforms, and an annual output exceeding 60,000 units, creating a robust ecosystem for intelligent equipment manufacturing.
