98% of Construction Leaders Plan to Invest in Workforce Planning by 2025

A new report from Bridgit and Construction Dive’s studioID reveals that 98% of construction leaders plan to boost workforce planning investments in 2025, turning to AI, automation, and advanced analytics to combat the industry’s deepening labor crisis. The 2025 State of Workforce Planning report surveyed hundreds of executives across operations, HR, and project management, uncovering major pain points: rising labor costs, burnout, and limited capacity for new projects. Despite these challenges, 71% still rely on outdated tools like spreadsheets and whiteboards, though nearly all respondents aim to implement modern solutions within a year—many budgeting over $100,000. Leaders identified key needs: automation, forecasting, and integration with CRM and HR systems. The report emphasizes that strategic workforce planning is essential for scaling operations, improving retention, and winning more work. Companies aligning employee skills with project needs are achieving stronger outcomes and morale. “The industry is shifting from manual to data-driven, scalable solutions,” said Bridgit Co-founder Lauren Lake.

Intelligent City’s Robotic Prefab Construction Targets Canada’s Housing Crisis

Metro Vancouver’s Intelligent City is pioneering prefabricated mass-timber construction to help solve Canada’s housing crisis. In its Delta factory, industrial robots assemble complete floor and wall sections—including plumbing, wiring, insulation, and cladding—for nine-storey apartment buildings that can be rapidly erected on-site, cutting construction time by four to six months compared to concrete builds. The approach promises faster, more sustainable housing with reduced carbon emissions and waste. Supported by federal and provincial policies encouraging modular housing, including B.C.’s Bill 44, Intelligent City plans to expand operations to Toronto to localize production. Despite challenges such as higher upfront costs and sourcing competitive cross-laminated timber, the method aims to deliver consistent quality at scale while addressing labour shortages. Industry advocates hope to boost prefab housing’s share from 4.5% to 25% of new builds in B.C., seeing modular construction as key to meeting ambitious national housing targets while lowering environmental impacts.

Prefab Builders Urge Faster Permits to Help Solve Canada’s Housing Crisis

In east Edmonton, companies like Total Modular and Modern Modular are showcasing how factory-built housing can help address Canada’s housing crisis. Inside climate-controlled warehouses, entire homes are constructed in sections—complete with kitchens, wiring, and finishes—before being shipped to sites for quick assembly on foundations. This modular approach reduces waste, shortens build times to as little as six weeks, and provides stable, indoor jobs for tradespeople. However, industry leaders say permitting delays, sometimes stretching to six months, undermine these advantages. They’re urging the federal government to coordinate with municipalities and offer incentives to streamline approvals. As Prime Minister Mark Carney promotes an ambitious plan to boost homebuilding, modular builders argue that their method is proven, efficient, and modern—unlike outdated perceptions of mobile homes from decades past. Advocates also emphasize the need to educate the public on the quality and durability of today’s modular designs, positioning them as a key solution for fast, cost-effective, and scalable housing across Canada.
