UBY - positon in North America
November 12, 2023

Construction monitoring firm solidifies position in North America

International technology company UBY, known for its AI-enabled monitoring solutions, is growing its presence in North America with the appointment of Robert McMaster as its first Director of Business Development for US & Canada.

Having recently launched in Canada, creating this leadership role is a key strategic moment, building on the progress made since the company established a permanent presence in the US market last year. Robert has a background in construction technology and the mining sector, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Robert comments:

“Joining UBY at this pivotal moment is exciting. There is huge potential for change in the monitoring industry, and UBY is showing how cutting-edge technology can ensure safer, leaner, and more efficient projects.

“UBY’s comprehensive range of monitoring solutions has very broad applications, both within the construction industry, but also beyond, particularly in mining, energy and manufacturing where environmental and geotechnical monitoring, as well as worker safety, are a top priority.”

UBY is known for innovation, offering smart monitoring solutions powered by patented software and AI, accessible from anywhere via an intuitive cloud-based platform. UBY supports construction companies, asset owners and infrastructure managers, as well as industrial operators, delivering solutions for operational productivity, environmental management, structural movement, safety and health, and communications.

UBY is currently working on the Pawtucket Tunnel Project, a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) system commissioned by the Narragansett Bay Commission. With a complex program of work, involving two miles of tunnel in a densely populated area of Rhode Island, contractors CB3A: CBNA x Barletta, asked UBY to provide a solution to help them minimize impacts from the project on local residents, ensure the safety of the construction team and help prevent project delays.

Across five sites, UBY has installed AI-enhanced sensors to monitor noise, with sound recognition and vibration sensors for blasting. UBY is also providing surface monitoring for buildings and highways and geotechnical shaft monitoring. Safety is a top priority, and UBY’s worker geolocation solution and personal RCS monitors are also being deployed. UBY’s user-friendly platform allows the construction team to have real-time access to all sensor data, analyzed and visualized to allow them to take actions as needed, as well as automated alerts and reports.

This project demonstrates UBY’s ability to offer a breadth of different solutions, allowing construction companies to manage all their monitoring needs within one platform. As a technology company, development, integrations, and data management are all managed in-house which allows UBY to offer bespoke solutions and prioritizes data security.

With a commitment to full service, UBY has formed an installation partnership with VSL, to deploy sensors on all projects, alongside UBY’s Operations team which provides full technical support. VSL has decades of industry expertise and a track record of excellence.

Laurent Mareuge, CEO at UBY, shares how UBY’s increased presence in North America is part of a trajectory of global growth:

“It is great to be expanding the team in the USA and Canada. Appointing Robert is a recognition of our ambitions in the region; he brings a breadth of experience that supports the range of clients we work with.

“UBY is growing rapidly globally. We have been supporting major projects in mainland Europe since 2019. Building on the success of our pilot projects and proof of concepts in the USA and UK, we are now confirming the traction by setting up a permanent presence in these countries.

“We also expanded into Australia and Hong Kong in 2022. This year, we’ve continued our North American growth and have taken our solutions to Canada.”
