The Canadian construction industry is taking a stand in the upcoming federal election. CCA and their industry partners have officially launched the Construction for Canadians campaign, a national initiative backed by 57 construction associations representing all levels—from national to regional—across the country.

Led by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA), the campaign urges federal candidates to prioritize critical investments in trade-enabling infrastructure, workforce development, and modernized procurement systems.

“A strong construction industry is the key to a strong Canada,” said Rodrigue Gilbert, President of the CCA. “To support long-term growth, the next federal government must make the necessary and overdue investments.”

Why Construction Matters to Every Canadian

Construction plays a vital role in shaping Canada’s future. It builds the physical infrastructure that connects communities, drives economic growth, and supports national prosperity and resilience. Despite its importance, the industry continues to face significant challenges—such as labor shortages, outdated procurement policies, and underinvestment in infrastructure. External threats like U.S. tariffs and economic uncertainty further compound these issues.

“The stakes are high — without strategic investment, Canada risks falling further behind,” added Gilbert. “We need bold action to ensure our industry has the resources, talent, and opportunities to keep building a strong economy.”

The Industry’s Economic Impact

Construction is one of Canada’s largest economic drivers:

  • 1.6 million workers employed nationwide
  • $151 billion in annual economic impact

These figures underscore the sector’s importance not only to the economy but also to the daily lives of Canadians.

How Canadians Can Get Involved

The Construction for Canadians campaign empowers Canadians to become advocates. Citizens can:

By raising awareness and urging government action, the campaign seeks to ensure construction is recognized as essential to Canada’s long-term success.
