It’s always exciting to hear of companies choosing Calgary for their western headquarters, bringing their expertise while employing local talent.
Buttcon is a construction company founded in Ontario in 1979 by Michael A. Butt, who had a passion for construction and engineering.
Since then, it has completed projects across the country from offices in Toronto and Ottawa and, recognizing opportunities in Western Canada, has opened an office in Calgary.
Buttcon hired Kevin Lawlor, the former general manager of special projects and field operations at Stuart Olson, as president and CEO of Buttcon West.
Now with 25 years of experience in the industry, Lawlor began his career as an apprentice carpenter, working his way up through the ranks as foreman, superintendent and project director.
Its Calgary office opened last year on Kensington Road N.W. and today it employs 17 staff specializing in institutional, commercial and multi-unit residential construction.
Lawlor and his team, making use of past relationships, were able to secure jobs soon after they opened the doors to their new space — one of the first was for the Calgary Board of Education, a renovation of Emily Follensbee School for students with complex severe disabilities.
