Construction bids opened Monday for the super library on LeBreton Flats after the City of Ottawa released the final drawings with hopes of meeting the pre-tender estimate of $192.9 million.
The contract competition is for pre-qualified general contractors identified last summer: EllisDon, PCL and Pomerleau.
The city said the tender will close in the summer, with construction beginning in the fall.
The launch of the request for proposals meant the final design by Diamond Schmitt Architects and KWC Architects was ready for construction bids.
The facility at 555 Albert St. on LeBreton Flats is a joint project between the Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada.
The city is releasing the tender under difficult market conditions for construction material. The Ottawa Construction Association sent a special warning to buyers in the winter about the escalating prices.
