City of Regina releases design photos of new Wascana Pool

As temperatures soared on Wednesday amid heat warnings, the City of Regina announced that construction on the replacement for Wascana Pool will begin later this month and continue over the course of the next two years.

Crews have already started putting up fences and if all goes according to plan, the pool will ready by the spring of 2023, in time for peak swim season.

“We’re very excited about this project. It will encourage local job creation, but in the end it will create a great experience for residents of Regina and visitors,” said Diana Hawryluk, executive director of city planning and community development, at a news conference.

The next few months will be dedicated to construction prep and excavations will follow. The designs includes two pools, one for leisure and the other for sport, a hot tub, waterslides, a spray pad and a lazy river, as well as accessible washrooms, change rooms, and play space. A concession stand will be available for both pool users and drop-in visitors.

The design was approved on May 20 by the Provincial Capital Commission (PCC). Although there have been some opponents to the design, the City says the final plan is the result of extensive consultations with residents, stakeholders and pool users in several phases.
