Check out these videos on what builders are saying about Built Green

We hear many builders and developers saying participation in a third-party certification program helps them build better and offers them a competitive advantage. Here’s what a few BUILT GREEN® builders have to say.

About Built Green Canada

Built Green Canada is an industry-driven, national, non-profit organization committed to working with builders interested in responsible sustainability practices in the residential building sector. The organization offers programs for single family, single family renovations, high density (including multi-storey, residential tower, and mixed-use), and high density renovation projects, with a communities program under development.

Committed to the integrity of its programs, Built Green Canada provides learning opportunities that allow for continuous improvements to building practices, participation affordability and third-party certification, which requires builders to contract Energy Advisors to assess the effectiveness of the systems in the home.

While energy efficiency is a fundamental component of these programs, integrating the EnerGuide label through Natural Resources Canada (applicable to our Single Family and SF Renovation programs), Built Green Canada goes beyond energy efficiency, moving the industry toward a more holistic approach to sustainable building practices. An approach that includes the preservation of natural resources, reduction of pollution, ventilation and air quality, and the improvement of home durability. As such, builders and their customers get a two-in-one: the BUILT GREEN® label and the EnerGuide label, offering verification of the energy performance and the green features integrated into the home.

This holistic approach means using advanced building technologies that consider the home as a system or a sum of its parts—everything from site orientation, building materials, HVAC equipment, windows, water and electrical consumption, and builder practices. These component parts all contribute to the way Built Green Canada teaches builders how to use the latest technologies to ensure a healthier, more durable home with a lower environmental impact, costs savings to the homebuyer and choices they can make on how to have a greener home.

Built Green Canada began in 2003, and has grown its representation to include Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, and has now expanded into Manitoba. Builders have worked with us to complete over 34,175 BUILT GREEN® certified homes represented in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario—including the units in multi-storey projects, the total is over 38,169 (as at March 31, 2019).
