One of the biggest benefits of owning and publishing the Construction Links Network platform is that I have the privilege of working with many women in the construction and building industry.
Most of the brilliant marketing minds in this industry are women and it is nice to see many more women entering the business as entrepreneurs, executives, architects, engineers, sales people and in the skilled trades. There are many successful companies in this industry managed by women.
Women in Construction Week is annually dedicated to changing the stereotypes that women face when it comes to careers by giving them new opportunities to look at; the construction industry has many places where women can advance and build a career for themselves.
According to DaysOfTheYear.com, Women in Construction Week was founded by the National Association of Women in Construction. NAWIC began in 1953 by a group of women to help create a support network for other women in the industry. The NAWIC founded Women in Construction Week to give their organization an event to help bring women together.
In Canada, the Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) began in 1982 as the Toronto Chapter of NAWIC. In October 2005, CAWIC separated from NAWIC to launch a Canadian independent association for its membership but continues to maintain its affiliation with NAWIC which operates from its head office in Texas.
So let’s take some time to celebrate women in construction. Show your appreciation on social media using hashtags #womeninconstruction and #womeninconstructionweek.
