CCA applauds news that the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion is moving forward

Ottawa, June 18, 2019 – News of the federal government’s decision to green light the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project comes at a welcome time for the construction industry, according to the Canadian Construction Association (CCA).

Regulatory delays have impeded progress on a pipeline that could deliver nearly triple the amount of crude from Alberta’s oil sands to British Columbia’s coast, increasing the value of Canadian oil and providing benefits to Canada through job creation and investments in capital projects.

“CCA has long advocated for sustainable development and an inclusive consultation process, recognizing the need to balance environmental and economic considerations in the decision-making process,” said Mary Van Buren, CCA president. “This news will bring much needed relief to the construction industry, helping to restore business confidence when investing in major infrastructure projects in Canada.

CCA hopes there are no further delays and that construction can begin early this summer. Any further interruption may impede investment, employment, innovation and technology development.

The construction industry is a significant contributor to the Canadian economy. CCA’s members are committed to working with the federal government and stakeholders to move forward without delay on this important Canadian infrastructure project that will generate significant economic opportunity and benefits for all Canadians.
