CBHCC Opens Public Review for Code Changes

The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) is inviting construction professionals, stakeholders, and the public to take part in the upcoming public review of proposed changes to the 2020 National Model Codes. This review process is a crucial step in ensuring that building and construction codes are up-to-date, safe, and reflective of current industry practices and innovations.

The public review will run from October 21 to December 19, 2024, providing an extended period for interested participants to offer their insights and opinions on the proposed code changes. By visiting the CBHCC website, users can access the proposed amendments and submit their feedback.

Why Should You Participate?

This is a unique opportunity for Canadians across the construction and building sectors to contribute directly to the code development process. Whether you are a construction professional, engineer, architect, or part of the general public with an interest in safety and building standards, your feedback is valuable. By participating, you can help shape the National Model Codes, which form the foundation for building regulations across provinces and territories.

What Happens After the Public Review?

Once the public review concludes, all submitted comments and feedback will be reviewed by the relevant code development committees. These committees will carefully assess the input and make recommendations to the CBHCC on the proposed changes. If the changes are approved, they will be incorporated into the 2025 editions of the National Model Codes.

Impact of the National Model Codes

The National Model Codes set the standards for building safety, sustainability, and construction practices across Canada. While provinces and territories adopt these codes, they may do so with or without modifications to suit regional requirements. This means that your feedback not only impacts national regulations but can also influence local construction practices and policies.

How to Participate in the Review

  1. Visit the CBHCC website starting October 21, 2024.
  2. Review the proposed changes to the 2020 National Model Codes.
  3. Submit your feedback through the designated channels before the December 19, 2024 deadline.

This is your chance to contribute to the future of building safety and innovation in Canada.
