The 2026 Top100 Projects Report by ReNew Canada reveals a record-breaking surge in public infrastructure investment, with Canada’s largest projects now totaling $343 billion—a historic $43 billion year-over-year increase, the largest in the report’s 20-year history. This unprecedented growth is largely driven by major nuclear energy investments, led by Ontario’s Pickering Generating Station Refurbishment and the Darlington New Nuclear Project, which together account for nearly $50 billion. With additional upgrades at Bruce Power and Darlington, nuclear initiatives now claim four of the top six spots on the list.
Despite nuclear’s rapid rise, transit remains the dominant sector, representing $123 billion across 25 projects, followed by buildings ($81 billion) and energy ($80 billion). This year’s report introduced 12 new projects valued at $70 billion, evenly split across energy, transit, and building sectors. Notable additions include Calgary’s revived Green Line LRT, Toronto’s Yonge-North Subway Extension, and the federal government’s Alto High-Speed Rail Network.
Federal support for nuclear energy continues to grow, with a $2 billion investment in small modular reactors (SMRs) through the Canada Growth Fund, securing a 7.5% stake in the Darlington New Nuclear Project. According to ReNew Canada Editor John Tenpenny, the report reflects a national commitment to long-term energy security and sustainable urban mobility.
The Top100 Projects Report ranks Canada’s largest public infrastructure developments by total project value. Industry leaders will gather to celebrate these achievements at the Top100 Projects Key Players and Owners Dinner on February 24, 2026, in Toronto, with a second event in Vancouver on May 12, 2026.
