As Canada faces the urgent need to accelerate housing delivery and modernize critical infrastructure, the federal government is calling on experienced leaders to help shape the country’s future. Applications are now open for current and upcoming Board of Directors positions across several Crown corporations under the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, with submissions accepted until March 9, 2026.
The opportunity spans five major federal entities: the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Canada Lands Company Limited (CLCL), Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA). Collectively, these organizations play a central role in financing infrastructure, enabling housing development, managing strategic land assets, and overseeing nationally significant transportation corridors.
Board Directors appointed through the Governor in Council process will help guide governance, strategic investment, and oversight to ensure each corporation delivers on its mandate. Directors are appointed for terms of up to four years and may be eligible for reappointment. These roles are designed for qualified leaders from both the public and private sectors who bring expertise in governance, finance, infrastructure delivery, housing policy, and large-scale capital projects.
According to the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, filling these board roles with experienced professionals is critical to advancing Canada’s housing and infrastructure priorities. Directors will help drive transformative public investment, accelerate homebuilding, strengthen economic growth, and foster collaboration with multi-jurisdictional partners across the country.
In addition to current board vacancies, applicants may also be considered for future positions as Build Canada Homes transitions into an arm’s-length entity. The Government of Canada emphasizes that appointments will follow an open, transparent, and merit-based selection process to reinforce accountability and public trust.
HICC Crown corporations operate under independent boards responsible for governance and oversight, while remaining accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure. As Canada seeks to build innovative, inclusive, and sustainable communities at an unprecedented pace, these board appointments represent a unique opportunity to influence national policy, investment strategy, and long-term infrastructure planning.
Interested candidates can apply through the Government of Canada’s Governor in Council appointments website.
